Remove It or Lose It

Dear Community Members:

Although Irvine remains one of America’s safest cities, like any community, we are not crime-free.  Theft from vehicles is one example of an area we are trying to focus our resources. Apartment communities, fitness centers, parking garages, shopping centers and other parking areas can all attract opportunistic thieves who are looking for an easy target.

We have found that often times when vehicles are broken into, the property stolen has generally been clearly visible from outside the vehicle- left conspicuously on the front seat or center console. Among items most stolen are: portable GPS navigation units, laptop computers, mP3 players (ipods), wallets and purses.  Simply taking these items with you, or hiding them very well in your vehicle before you reach your destination, can have a significant effect on would-be thieves.

Next time you park your car, be sure to lock it, and remember, “Remove it or Lose it.”  We will continue to aggressively pursue thieves on our end, and we appreciate your efforts in working in partnership with us.

Please contact your local Crime Prevention Specialist at (949)724-7193 with any questions, or to find out more about what you can do in your neighborhood to prevent crime.  You may also find more information at www.cityofirvine.org/ipd/divisions/crimeprev.
